DOMINIQUE FARAH TELLS OF HER FAMILY’S JOURNEY OF MINISTERING THROUGH MUSIC WITH THE SUPPORT OF FR TONY ALEX MGL
I’ve known the MGLs for about five years. I live seven minutes away from two out of the three parishes run by the MGLs. I first encountered them when I was working for the Sydney Catholic Schools Central Office. I was working on a project called #iLight2020, where I had to get choirs from different schools and parishes to record Christmas/Advent songs as a countdown to Christmas. I knew a family of singers from St Declan's Parish who went to school with my son. They introduced me to Fr Tony Alex.
The MGLs have a knack for being vessels of God's call. When I was filming the iLight video, Fr Tony invited me to sing for the parish. I was already committed to another parish, so I told him that I could potentially do a youth choir. In May of 2022, our youth choir began with five children. Today we have around 20 regular members who form part of the OLF Youth Choir. We are now proud to be considered part of the MGL Music Ministry, supporting the mission through music and worship.
Fr Tony has impacted my life because he has had total faith and trust in my ability to lead a choir alongside my husband and two young adult children. We have also provided music for retreats, adoration, and other parish events.
Fr Tony invited us to take part in The Search (no one can say no to Fr Tony!). I attended in 2022, and my husband and 20-year-old son in 2023.
Having done The Search, my son and husband are now co-hosts of a small group in their respective age groups. Because we have experienced the joy and fulfilment of God's love ourselves, we find purpose and meaning in helping others discover God's love and encouraging them to serve—particularly in music ministry, as part of the growing MGL Music Ministry family.
