COME TO ME            Mtt.11.25-30

Jesus rejoices in the Holy Spirit. He praises his Father for allowing himself to be revealed to the “little ones” – tax collectors, sinners and others who are willing to obey the teachings of Jesus. The wise and clever, that is Pharisees, scribes and experts of the law have ignored and rejected the blessing of God through the sending of Jesus, the Holy and Anointed One.

Faith is a gift given to us, “a supernatural virtue infused by God” (art 153 Catholic Catechism). One must be open to the interior work of the Spirit who pours his love into our hearts. With openness to God in mind and heart the Lord can help one to believe. Faith is the assent of truths. I believe in the truths revealed to me in scripture, Tradition and the teachings of the Church. With the help of the Holy Spirit I submit my intellect and understanding to these revealed truths and faith is born. On my part I believe, to believe is a human act. On God’s part he infuses me with grace and power – faith.

The Son has chosen to reveal himself to us. We are privileged to know Jesus. This is the gracious will of God. How he reveals himself to us is the mystery of God – through life’s experience, through the Church, in the world, or by way of Evangelisation. We have been chosen. With openness of mind and heart the Lord can remove the obstacles of doubt and unbelief and we are open to the benevolent and abundant life of God. What a gift!

There are so many who wander aimlessly in life. They search for meaning and are confused in their identity. As Christians we have found our identity. We know who we are and where we are in our relationship with God.  Jesus, the Son of Man and Son of God calls and we follow. He alone answers every question, anticipates every need and fulfils every longing of the human heart. He who thought with a human mind, worked with human hands and loved with a human heart supports us and leads us to an authentic understanding of who man is. Jesus fully reveals man to man himself. He understands the trials of humanity, the difficulties we must endure, the problems and issues of our daily lives; he himself experienced. We find rest in him. He seeks those who are burdened to come and find rest in Him. The yoke he bears, that his life and teachings are light. He empowers us with his Holy Spirit in order to live life to the full.

Are you are tired and burdened? Then come to Jesus. Find rest in him. As John the Beloved disciple leaned on Jesus at the Last Supper, you too must find comfort in him who is near. Unload your cares upon him since he is looking after you. Teresa of Avila said, “Look upon him at all times since he is always looking upon you”. Have you been running, tired and worn out? Have you come to the end of your strength with all your worries and anxieties? Have you lost the courage to go on? Has your faith been tested? Jesus says “Come to me”. Come to Him and drink deeply of his life and love.

Lord Jesus I will come to you and find rest in your love.  I surrender my cares and worries. Lord I believe in you, help my unbelief. Amen.
